Banned, etc
So, I log in this morning to find my account has been, for the first time in two years, 4k hours+, suspended for 70 hours (Q_Q) due to a "racial slur" I used. I know what happened, and I'd like to know whether ANet considers the context in which you said the "slur" when they go and suspend your account or just do it to appease the mothers worrying about their little son or daughter learning bad words.
Also: I haet TANG people |

A racial slur is a racial slur no matter the context, take the 70hrs and learn a lesson.

It's still a racial slur. Stop crying and learn your lesson.

----------- I'm not really crying about it, as I can just use an alt account, but when ANet are suspending my account for something as stupid as this when they could be putting their efforts to better use it annoys me. |

Sir, I wasn't there, so I don't know exactly what happen. Your words alone mean little here really. Take it up with the support if you feel unjust by this.
According to your information, person A should definitely be ban as well. You as person D shouldn't get involved in the first place. |

Etta, thanks for posting something relevant to the thread. I agree with you, I guess. I still think ANet need to lrn2context, though. |

So much flame.
Anything counts as a slur, albeit RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOfaggot is a pretty bad one still, there's a lot you can get reported for by PvE care bears. C'est al vie. |

Anet may not de-ban your account before your ban period expires, but fighting with people here won't help. Send off an email or a complaint ticket and see what action they are willing to do. And I suggest you avoid using any such racial slurs in any context |

It's a bit of a grey area really, consider today Political Correctness (PC) and people mind set. Some words are use by a certain group of people everyday, common words if you may but when other group use those words, bam! all hell break. Just think if it's sound offensive then it probably is.

Back to the point, I agree that you were just explaining the shorthand term, and were not insulting anyone as it wasn't targetted at someone. I would submit a mail explaining the context with a screendump, in that way many things can become clear, maybe they submitted a screendump where the text u typed was taken completely out of context. For example scrolled up far, enough so u don't see the lines just above, so they let it appear that you were insulting someone. If this is indeed the case as you describe it then better be careful when you use words like that, your "naivety" ensured the reporter could report you. |

I'm not asking for a de-ban, nor am I selling +1s to trolls who have nothing better to do atm. I want to know whether ANet takes into account the context of your actions when they suspend your account.
I know what a racial slur is, and ngrfgt, in the context of which I said it, is not a racial slur, and ANet should recognize this. EDIT: Thanks Patrick. I'll do just that. Discussion can go on untill a mod thinks its out of hand and locks this thread into oblivion. Last edited by RhanoctJocosa; Jul 31, 2007 at 10:53 AM // 10:53.. |

Those 2 words are definitely very offensive. Let me ask you, would you say those words when you're out and about? I know, in the context of which you said it, it didnt sound like that. But like I said, most people won't see the grey area.

You wont get any solution, all you want to hear is "oh poor innocent you, Anet wronged you!". If you cant deal with people who think that maybe you deserved to be banned then dont post in a public forum |

They should just add more words to the filter. Don't turn off the filter if you don't want to read them..?
On another note I've been hearing alot of people getting the 70hrs bann for "slurs". |

It doesn't matter what the context is, it is still racism. I'm glad Anet is finally doing something about this, after seeing first hand how many racists are actually playing err chatting in the game. There's a fine line between playing around and racism, until you figure that out I guess you'll be banned a few more times. I know it's BS that you are (to our knowledge) the only one being banned for this, but learn from it and move on. I just hope Anet starts cracking down on the racism in this game. Just go to RA AD. 1 and you'll see how bad it is at times.
